Course Details

Compliance with ANSI code requirements for design and Construction is needed to assure the safety petroleum refinery and chemical plant piping. The designer, fabricator, supplier, erector, examiner, and inspector’s understanding And application of these requirements is essential in producing this desired safety.
Also since the plant owner has overall responsibility for compliance with ANSI B31.3, he must likewise have an overall understanding of the intention and limitations imposed by code.
Course Objective:
This course provides a background and ANSI code guidance on design, materials, stress analysis, and practical methods and trends in piping and pipe supports design and stress Analysis and construction
Course Certificate:
Masters Consultant certificate will be issued to all attendees completing minimum of 75% of the total tuition hours of the course.
Course Outline 
Day One
o        Overview of Piping Codes, definitions.
o        Piping design criteria: Design conditions, design
o        Loads (pressure, dead-weight, thermal, seismic, wind vibration, hydraulic, anchor movement); stress tables and allowable stresses.
o        Pressure design: Wall thickness calculation; nozzle openings, and pressure-temperature ratings.
o        Definition of critical piping type and analysis required.
Day Two
o        External Loads Design: Flexibility, fatigue, stress intensification, combined loads, cold spring
o        Simplified analysis methods.
o        Piping Thermal Expansion analysis and stresses due to dead-weight and wind load consideration.
o        Degrees of freedom / pipe support types.
o        Piping and Pipe support Materials: Proper selection (strength, ductility, and hardness), fabrication,
o        Inspection and testing (tensile, elongation, hardness).
Day Three
- Code allowable forces and moments for machinery nozzles due to piping configuration.
o        Pipe Support Design and analysis: Support types, assumptions, load combinations, variable supports, lugs and attachments.
- Loads on support & graphical methods for finding loads on support.
- Calculating preferred points of support.
Day Four
- Pipe Spans calculations, fundamental cantilever formulas.
- Piping Flexibility: Quick check method and necessary flexible length calculations.
- Pipe supports for storage tanks.
- Purred pipelines analysis, basics for dynamic analysis of piping.
Day Five
o        Design of pipe hanger : Type (rigid, constant support & variable spring), Span, Thermal movement
o        Calculations and Load calculations.
o        Supporting of process piping area and tank farm.
o        The use of computer programs for piping stress analysis and design of pipe supports.
o        Expansion joints.
o        Key documents to perform pipe supports and analysis.
o        Proceeding complete piping design and stress analysis using software package Auto PIPE.
