DurationThis course will focus on sustainable development including site selection, green financing, and green rating systems with LEED being the green rating system of highest emphasis. Other green rating systems such as the Living Building Challenge, WELL, and BREAM will be discussed and analyzed.
The course will have a two-track focus. One will be to understand the basic topics around sustainable development and two to go into greater detail on the development requirements for green certification of projects including, energy performance, water, indoor air quality, innovation, and regional priorities.
The second is to experience the development of a sustainable project from two sides, owner and consultant: as an owner developing project requirements and as an architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) party responding to requirements requests.
You will work with your peers, and both propose and critique sustainable solutions. All these activities are to apply and reinforce the green building and sustainable development concepts you will learn.
